Uber says some regulation changes for app-based ride-share and delivery workers in B-C will drive up costs and decrease demand for local restaurants. The company says it supports some of the rules coming up in September, including a new minimum wage and health and safety coverage for workers. However, the company says requiring platforms to pay workers a vehicle allowance of 35 to 45 cents per KM is unreasonable and drives up business costs. Unifor, Canada’s largest private-sector union, says BC’s changes are helping to protect the basic rights of gig workers.
